Mixed media on Cotton
Platform 2 originates from a photograph taken at a train platform during a period of personal uncertainty. Drawn to windows, I began isolating fragments, zooming in and adjusting color-searching for rhythm within static, everyday surfaces.
The image was printed onto woven cotton, shifting it from representation to material. I then intervened manually: cutting, layering, and altering the surface to introduce plasticity and disrupt the flatness of the photographic image. These assemblages were subsequently scanned, allowing the tactile manipulations, textile structure, and photographic origin to merge into a new visual field.
By zooming in and moving across disciplines—photography, textile, and mixed media—the work translates the outside world into pixels. In this process, the environment is gradually reduced to an almost abstract composition, where rhythm and structure create a sense of stillness.
Through this process, the work moves between image and material, pixel and fiber, memory and structure. Platform 2 forms part of an ongoing investigation into how photographic fragments can evolve into textile-based patterns—not as decoration, but as a way of thinking within image-making and fashion design.
The image and shapes are an inspiration for a lamp I am designing.
